The Warcraft movie from Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures tells a story of Orcs having to flee from their dying land to inhabit a new place, and humans having to deal with the invading Orcs in the world of Azeroth. It’s not just a humans versus Orc tale, though. The Orcs have some depth.
Neowin posted up a quick synopsis of the movie, explaining how one of the Orcs attempts to make peace with the humans to avoid all out war and how many of the humans are distrustful of the giant green warriors. You can check out the two minute trailer below.
The movie stars a number of people who might be familiar to those who pay attention to secondary and side characters in larger films. As rolled out on IMDB, notable actors such as Dominic Cooper from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Clancy Brown from Starship Troopers, and 3:10 to Yuma’s Ben Foster help iron out the big names, while others like Paula Patton from Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Daniel Wu from Protege help fill out the lower ranks. These aren’t the kind of marquee actors you might be used to seeing in $100 million films, but a few of them have some serious chops under their belt.
The movie is being helmed by Duncan Jones, the same writer and director behind the indie sci-fi hit Moon, and the director behind the odd but entertaining Source Code.
Back in October VC Post reported that Warcraft had been pushed out of its December, 2015 release all the way to June 10th, 2016 to avoid having to compete head to head with what’s bound to be the biggest movie of the year, Star Wars: Episode VII. Universal had apparently considered Warcraft as being a “problem” movie.
Nevertheless, the general feedback from the gaming and movie-going public has been fairly positive about the new trailer footage and a lot of hardcore Warcraft fans can’t wait to see it in theaters. Neurotic Hermit wrote…
Spec Ops also shared a similar sentiment, writing…
There are, of course, plenty of people who feel as if the movie might end up being epic fail. There’s just a lot of general discussion about whether or not the movie will be any good and tons of people completely misinformed about the movie thinking that it’s about World of Warcraft and the original Warcraft I RTS, and then there are some people angry that Elves and Dwarves weren’t shown in the trailer.
Anyway, in addition to unveiling the new trailer for the mega-blockbuster movie based on Blizzard’s undeniably beloved franchise, the software giant also revealed a new expansion for World of Warcraft called Legion World. You can check out the cinematic trailer below from the official World of Warcraft YouTube channel.
