a minute read

Versus Evil and Stoic Studios announced that they will be launching a Kickstarter for their board game based on The Banner Saga called The Banner Saga: Warbands. The crowd-funding campaign will get underway starting November 12th, next week.

The board game will feature a miniature set of figurines to played as a tabletop game, similar to many other classic tabletop board games.

In the press notice explaining that the board game would be coming soon to Kickstarter, it details the process and time already invested into the project, which has been in the works for the past year by MegaCon Games…

The funds will go to making The Banner Saga: Warbands accessible to a wide audience looking to expand their tabletop collection.

You can actually get a glimpse of some of the miniatures and how they’ll look in the finished product with the press shots below.

Interestingly enough, if you were curious about where the tabletop genre sits in regards to casual game sales, according to a report from NBC News the tabletop gaming genre has seen an increase in sales of over 10% in the previous year. According to FiveThirtyEight the board game genre has managed $196 million in funds through Kickstarter alone, showing a lot of breadth in both content and market interest. A game like The Banner Saga seems ripe for the pickings for a board game alternative, especially given its rich lore and beloved story within the world of interactive entertainment.

Once again, you can look for the Kickstarter to get underway for this project on November 12th. If you don’t trust your memory to kick you in the pants as a reminder, you can sign up for the e-mail notice via the project’s official website.
